Planning ahead

Axiom Jam

A tray full of coloured blocks, and gates of the same colours on its border. Slide the blocks along their rows and columns, clear a path, and send each one out through a gate that matches it. Empty the tray in as few slides as you can.

Free in the browser, no account needed.

Rules

  1. A block slides along its row or column over free cells, as far as you like, and stops at walls, other blocks and the border.
  2. Gates on the border carry a colour and a symbol. A block leaves the tray when it slides into a gate of its own colour that spans its full width.
  3. A block can cross the tray and leave in a single slide.
  4. Every slide is one move. Clear every block to win.
  5. Par is the fewest moves possible: match it without hints for a perfect clear.

How to play, step by step

  1. Slide the blocks. Drag a block along its row or column. It slides over free cells and stops at walls, other blocks and the border.
  2. Out through the gates. A block leaves when it slides into a gate with its own colour and symbol that is at least as wide as the block. A quick flick sends it all the way.

Controls

  • Drag a block along its row or column; a quick flick slides it all the way
  • Tab to a block, arrows move between blocks, Enter or Space picks one up, then arrows slide it one cell, Shift and an arrow slide it all the way, Esc puts it down
  • H for a hint

Difficulty and levels

Easy trays are 5 by 5 with 4 or 5 blocks in two or three colours. Medium trays are 6 by 6 with 6 or 7 blocks and sometimes a wall. Hard trays hold 8 or 9 blocks and walls on up to 7 by 7, and expert packs 10 to 12 blocks into trays up to 8 by 8. Par is always the fewest slides possible.
