Card game for 2 to 6
Axiom Makao
Makao is the card game Poles grow up with. Match the suit or the rank of the top card, make the next player draw with twos, threes and kings, freeze them with fours, ask for a suit with an ace or a rank with a jack, and say "Makao" when you are down to one card. Play real people on any device, by link, by code or at a public table.
Free in the browser, no account needed.
Rules
- Each player gets five cards. One card is turned face up to start the discard pile.
- On your turn play a card of the same suit or the same rank as the top card, or several cards of one rank from 5 to 10 at once. If you cannot, draw one card; you may play it straight away if it fits.
- A 2 or a 3 makes the next player draw 2 or 3 cards unless they answer with a 2 or 3 of the same suit or rank; answers add up.
- A 4 makes the next player stand for a turn unless they answer with a 4.
- A jack asks for a rank from 5 to 10, an ace asks for a suit. A queen goes on any card and any card goes on a queen.
- The king of hearts makes the next player draw five, the king of spades the previous player.
- Call "Makao!" with the move that leaves you one card. Forget it and another player can catch you: you draw five.
- The first player to get rid of every card wins the round.
How to play, step by step
- Follow suit or rank. Play a card of the suit or the rank on top of the pile. A queen goes on anything.
- Attack and answer. Twos, threes and the kings of hearts and spades make a player draw; fours make them stand. Answer with a matching card to pass it on.
- Ask for a card. A jack asks for a rank, an ace asks for a suit.
